Villa Lobos is a short excerpt from Album of Solo Guitar by the metal band Arch Enemy on Zafforan Music. Their first album was released in 2001. Out of the fridge they are a brutal and awesome thrash band. The band consistently churns out new records with catchy melodies and superb guitar pieces. Villa Lobos is absolutely one of the most challenging but enjoyable tracks to play on guitar. The style is complex but well-structured. The prominent rhythm and solo sections allow for new methods of improvisation. The end solo brings you to the mysterious tones of the beginning of the song. The song starts with a simple chord sequence and soon escalates into the twin-guitar harmony of the bridge. On guitar, Villa Lobos is an instructional nightmare of tangled chords that must be mastered. It opens with plaintive arpeggiation and another arpeggio structure. Then it’s on to up and down lines. The rhythm guitar takes on the role of a lead and solo. Then a “rhythm guitar solo” continues the theme and then an “accent solo” builds the mystery of the song. The two-guitar track has a restless swinging funk feeling to it. There is an immediate contrast in contrast between the solo and the lead. The solo bursts with harmonics, bends, and finger picking. The gravel-rock soloing wraps around and over the chorus. For example, the prominent sixteenth notes, bouncing off the bass notes between the chords. d2c66b5586
