Gilthanas and Silvara arrive at Palanthas, bringing the legendary good dragons with them. The two explain that together they journeyed to Sanction, the home of the Dragonarmies and discovered the truth about the origin of the draconians. The Dragonarmies had ensured that the good dragons would not join the war against them by taking their eggs hostage. But now in the Temple, Gilthanas and Silvara see that the clerics of Takhisis and the mages of the black robes have been perverting the eggs of the good dragons in order to spawn the new race of draconians. Having been told what has happened with their eggs, the good dragons are now willing to join the fight and avenge their children.
With the Dragonlances in her possession and the good dragons on her side, Laurana organizes a flying cavalry of Knights of Solamnia and has her army take the offensive. Laurana becomes known as the "Golden General" during this campaign as her beauty and courage inspire her troops. Her army surges out of Palanthas, defeating the Dragonarmies in a series of battles and liberating much of northern Solamnia. During one of these battles Tasslehoff and Flint, riding a bronze dragon known as Fireflash, capture Kitiara's second-in-command Bakaris (who had insisted on riding into battle despite not being able to use his arm, previously wounded by Laurana at the High Clerist's Tower).
Following their voyage into the whirlpool, Tanis and his companions, along with Berem the Everman (who reveals he only pretends to be mute) find themselves in the ancient city of Istar, which is underwater and now inhabited by sea elves who saved them from death. The companions meet the sea elf Apoletta and her husband, a red-robed human mage named Zebulah. At first Apoletta is reluctant to help the companions or allow them to return to the surface, when Tanis tells her of the Dragonarmies and demonstrates his unawareness of good dragons' existence, she realizes how dire the situation is and relents.
Exiting the city, Tanis and Laurana meet up with Fizban, Caramon, Tika and Tasslehoff. Fizban then reveals that he is really the god Paladine. Tanis also recognizes him now as the old man at the Inn who first spurred them into action by calling for the guards in Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Fizban tell the heroes that both the good and evil dragons will remain on Ansalon and that balance has been restored between good and evil.
The icy chill of darkness begins to melt as spring returns to Ansalon. In the West, the Dragonarmies are being held at bay for the moment, and the forces of good have rediscovered lost secrets that give them the small hope of victory. But in the East, evil gnaws at the heart of Ansalon. The Queen of Darkness is not easily defeated, and her armies of evil dragons surround strongholds that have been ripped from the earth and float in the sky. The elven kingdom of Silvanesti has been corrupted by terrible magic into a nightmare forest, where one cannot distinguish the dream from the real. Keys to victory might be found underneath the red waves of the Blood Sea of Istar, or given by the gods themselves in a place known as Godshome. Finally, the source of the evil must be confronted in Neraka or Takhisis will emerge to control the world of Krynn.

Later that night Gilthanas interupts Laurana while she is making battle plans to tell her that while he was in Sanction he overheard Kitiara talking about how Tanis was serving her. Laurana quietly accepts this information and resumes making her battle plans.
With the Dragonlances in her possession and the good dragons on her side, Laurana organizes a flying cavalry of Knights of Solamnia and has her army take the offensive. She becomes known as the "Golden General" and earns the love and admiration of the people of Solamnia as she leads her army to victory after victory over the Dragonarmies. During one of these battles, Tasslehoff and Flint ride a bronze dragon known as Fireflash (Khirsah), and Tasslehoff capture Kitiara's second-in-command Bakaris (who had insisted on riding into battle despite not being able to use one of his arms) as Laurana's army routs the Dragonarmies from Vingaard Keep.
Following their voyage into the whirlpool, Tanis and his companions, along with Berem the Everman (who reveals he only pretends to be mute) find themselves in the ancient city of Istar, which is underwater and now inhabited by sea elves who saved them from death. The companions meet the sea elf Apoletta and her husband, a red robed human mage named Zebulah. At first Apoletta is reluctant to help the companions or allow them to return to the surface, believing that the war on the surface is none of her peoples' concern. But when Tanis tells her of the Dragonarmies and explains that the good dragons have not been seen, nor even remembered except in legends, she realizes how dire the situation is and relents.
Exiting the city, Tanis and Laurana meet up with Fizban, Caramon, Tika and Tasslehoff. Fizban then reveals (as Tanis had begun to suspect) that he is really the god Paladine. Tanis also recognizes him now as the old man at the Inn who first spurred them into action by calling for the guards in Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Fizban tell the heroes that both the good and evil dragons will remain on Ansalon and that balance has been restored between good and evil. He says that good was once the dominant force on Krynn during the reign of the Kingpriest, that this bred intolerance and arrogance, forcing the gods to bring about the Cataclysm in order to humble and temper mortals. Fizban explains to Caramon that the spirit who has helped Raistlin at times (and who Raistiln made a bargain with in the Great Library) is the ancient evil wizard Fistandantilus. But he points out that Raistlin is not being possessed and chose his life and his actions all by himself.
Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

The Spring dragons are loyal and brave creatures. Curiosity is in their nature, that's why they are masters of all kinds of energy. Their diet exists mostly around small rodents and fish, but they can survive on fruit and berries when in a dire situation. They are the most active in spring. They love playing and cuddling with each other and other creatures. Spring dragons are found in diverse coloration. Scientists think that it has to do with their energy and power of spring. The spring dragons are great friends to take on your journey as researchers.
The Springveil Season is the latest season to come to War Dragons, and will be available this week! Three new dragons make their debut among the spring blooms, as well as new Dragon Lord portraits and Dragon Riders to discover!
The boghaunters are not the only dragonflies restricted to springtime flight. Another species you can see this season is even named the springtime darner. One genus of early-flying species is named the corporals because they have shoulder stripes reminiscent of military insignia. The whitefaces are an early spring species in our area, but can be found through the summer up in Canada or at high elevations in the mountains. A few species of the many clubtails and nearly all of the baskettails fly almost exclusively in the spring as well.
-- 2nd reading (paperback) June 9th to 12th, 1998 I remembered absolutely nothing of the ending of this book! It was like I was reading it for the first time. But it was really good -even better than the first two, in some cases. But it did drag on for a little, and I still can't understand (a) how the good dragons could have enough eggs to make that many draconians, and (b) exactly how Berem dying would have opened the door for the Dark Queen, when it was his sister who held it closed. Seems to me he could close it forever, or keep the wedge in it forever if he died. Ah well. On to the time travel story! 2b1af7f3a8
