One of the most exciting announcements at the last BlizzCon was the reveal of WoTLK Gold, a brand new mobile game. Many were hoping to see World of Warcraft , but it wasn't announced, and fans voiced their frustrations.
Blizzard Entertainment has "experimented" with adapting World of Warcraft for mobile devices, but isn't actively looking to bring the MMORPG to new platforms, the director of production J. Allen Brack told P2Pah today at BlizzCon.
"Mobile is something that we're all enthusiastic about. We all own mobile devices. We all own tablets. It's pretty common to this point." Brack said.
"We've explored a range of different options for World of Warcraft ] with tablet, but we don't have a 'this is what which we think is the best tablet experience.' We're keeping an eye on the right experience is," he added.
One of the biggest hurdles that comes with the launch of World of Warcraft to mobiles is adapting the interface Brack stated.
"The experience of interface is extremely difficult on tablets, or very challenging on phone. The game wasn't designed for play on phones or tablets," Brack said. "So there's more of an opportunistic thing that's likely to arise instead of actually thinking about we're going to reproduce the World of Warcraft experience on a tablet."
World of Warcraft may not come to mobiles any time very soon, however, a new Blizzard game -- World of Warcraft --will be released for Android as well as iOS this year, the developer confirmed today.
Blizzard has announced World of Warcraft 's fifth expansion today: buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold. For more information on the expansion, read P2Pah's breakdown of the upcoming add-on. Of course, 7.4 million is still lower that World of Warcraft 's peak number of subscribers of 12 million in the year 2010. It's a remarkable feat regardless for a title that's celebrating the game's 10th anniversary in this year.
