Varun Dhawan will surely be called the next Salman Khan of the poster for this film and the style he adopts is very much the same. He lands on the poster a bit too dirty, the make up is extremely oily and the poster and promos make us to believe that his character will be the MVP. His directorial debut, Badlapur, makes his bones in the film, and he has clearly paid attention to the last one. The advancement in technology is a refreshing change and a breath of fresh air in an otherwise tad same old, boring, unimaginative Bollywood. The first reason why the film is a must watch is for the style that the filmmaker has chosen, opting for a darker story with a more gritty approach. The second reason is because it includes some new faces and most importantly, the inclusion of South Indian actors along with Kannada actors, who are not usually featured in the Indian film industry. Finally, the last and the most important reason is that the film has already been accussed of being anti-national, as the poeple in the comments of a first look still says, Badlapur is anti-India.
If you are not too fond of this new, grungy, dark, Bollywood, then you might even consider watching it for the very high production values, no matter how much we don't understand it, style and the allout innovation. Despite a very unusual plot, it is a very refreshing change and a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale, unimaginative Bollywood.
The movie starts civilly and loses its steam as soon as it starts breaking the rules of good thriller filmmaking. We have a confused pace with all kinds of twists and turns. One character is very good at talking, the other is very good at walking and some of the best dialogues are all around. The film normally is presented in a certain style with certain tones. For instance, Chirag is somewhat the goody two-shoes but the film is presented in a very comic book like way, which is not usually the case.
