Some emulators have problems when running games with large resources. If this does occur (usually due to forcing the game to load a particular amount of memory when the game is compiled and only running within the emulators heap), then the emulator may well crash if they run out of virtual memory. The only emulator for which I'm aware of this not having been fixed is the one that was recompiled for the Raspberry Pi 2. I believe it was only fixed in recent versions, but I'm not sure of the exact version. The game will crash and the only way to fix the crash is to restart the console.
