The O*NET system is maintained by a regularly updated database of occupational characteristics and worker requirements information across the U.S. economy. It describes occupations in terms of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required as well as how the work is performed in terms of tasks, work activities, and other descriptors.
The O*NET database is collected and updated through ongoing surveys of workers in each occupation supplemented in some cases by occupation experts. These data are incorporated into new versions of the database on an annual schedule , to provide up-to-date information on occupations.. The latest database releases are available from the O*NET Resource Center.
O*NET OnLine is a comprehensive web application for exploring the O*NET database. Occupation reports offer a range of information, from a broad overview to comprehensive detail on a specific subject.
Jobs use database scoped credentials to connect to the databases specified by the target group upon execution. If a target group contains servers or pools, these database scoped credentials are used to connect to the master database to enumerate the available databases.
The following image is designed to assist in understanding and setting up the proper job credentials. Remember to create the user in every database (all target user dbs) the job needs to run.
Depending on the size of the target group of databases and the desired execution time for a job (number of concurrent workers), the agent requires different amounts of compute and performance of the Job database (the more targets and the higher number of jobs, the higher the amount of compute required).
At their core, job websites act as both search engines and databases for open jobs. Some even offer premium services for job seekers like career coaching and cover letter writing. Job sites can help candidates with any education and experience level find employment in any sector. Anyone actively looking for a job should strongly consider using a job website to find and apply to as many relevant opportunities as possible.
The Census Bureau's Veteran Employment Outcomes (VEO) are new statistics on Army veterans' labor market outcomes one, five, and 10 years after discharge, by military occupation, rank, demographics (age, sex, race, ethnicity, education), industry and geography of employment. These statistics are generated by linking veteran records provided by the U.S. Army to national administrative data on jobs at the U.S. Census Bureau. Coverage of the data is all enlisted soldiers in the Army who completed their initial term of service and were discharged between 2000 and 2015 (about 650,000 veterans). Although VEO currently covers only Army veterans, these statistics could potentially be expanded to other service branches. Documentation and CSV files are available for download here: lehd.ces.census.gov/data/veo_experimental.html
In addition to public-use data products, LEHD microdata are available for research use in approved projects. Researchers interested in using restricted-use LEHD data must submit a proposal to conduct research at a secure Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC). LEHD data available in the FSRDCs includes job-level quarterly earnings history data, person-level demographic data, establishment-level firm characteristics, and establishment-level Quarterly Workforce Indicators. Detailed information about restricted-use LEHD data, including available states and years, is on the CES LEHD Data page. Additional details are also available in the LEHD Snapshot documentation.
myDataBank allows you to derive your own Custom Indicators from existing series. Click on Custom Indicators. Choose input indicators by clicking on the desired series in the panel and use the calculator functions to construct your custom indicator formula. For example, for a series that shows the percentage of female population, double-click on the series Population, Female. Then create a formula by clicking*100/ from the key pad. Then double click on the series Population, Total. After the formula is complete, you can verify its syntax by clicking the "> Validate icon. Give a name to your custom indicator and click on Add. Similarly you can create custom indicators such as GDP per Capita as GDP/Population, and annual growth rates for population as AGR(Population, Total), etc. To have "not available" values in the database treated as zero within your formula, use the NA function.
